Myers, president of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, a Washington advocacy group, said cigarette companies had responded to bans of terms like “light” and “low tar” in at least 78 countries by color-coding their packaging to convey the same ideas. The survey authors, led by David Hammond, a health studies professor at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, called for plain, uncolored packaging. Moreover, adults believe cigarette packs with the terms “smooth,” “silver” or “gold” are also easier to quit than other ones, and teenagers said they were more likely to try them, according to a survey and study published in September in the European Journal of Public Health. But study after study including ones by the industry disclosed in tobacco lawsuits has shown consumers believe the terms and colors connote a safer product. Center for Tobacco Products, said Thursday that the agency would “thoroughly review” the use of color on cigarette packages by June 22, the effective date of the wording ban and the first anniversary of the law’s passage.Īltria said it had used terms like “light” as well as packaging colors to connote different tastes, not safety. Kathleen Quinn, a spokeswoman for the new F.D.A. The notice sought public and industry comments, which are due Friday. Last month, the agency published a notice that it could take action against colors like silver or pastels, as well as additional words like “silver,” “smooth” and “natural,” which some companies are still planning to use on cigarette packages. authority to act against “similar descriptors” that could mislead consumers to think certain products were less risky. While Congress specifically banned some terms, including “low” and “mild” present on about half the packages of cigarettes sold in the United States it also gave the F.D.A. that a product is safer than conventional cigarettes before it can be marketed as such. One new requirement is that companies must prove to the F.D.A. sweeping new regulatory authority over tobacco. The tobacco regulation passed last year gave the F.D.A. Dillard III, a senior vice president of Altria, said banning certain colors would be unconstitutional under commercial speech and property protections. “We do not use colors to communicate whether one product is less harmful or more harmful than another.” Sylvia, a spokesman for Altria, the parent company of Philip Morris, said Thursday. “Colors are really used to identify and differentiate different brand packs,” David M.

He first worked on a photo sharing service that wasn’t able to take off, and then “founded AddictiveTips after dropping out in 2008, making it one of the fastest growing tech blogs today.” After coming up with the idea for a file sharing service, he explains: “I left my position as Editor-in-Chief in 2011 to develop Jumpshare full time.” Jumpshare is now incorporated, and has a growing number of employees developing this service full-time. Ghaus Iftikhar ( began Jumpshare in 2011, after believing that existing file sharing services didn’t quite cut it. You can share it with a link, through email, or post it straight onto Facebook or Twitter. Jumpshare Plus solves this problem by allowing users to upload files of any size, though this comes with a fee.ĭespite the file size restriction, the service is extremely useful and more so because it gives several options for transferring your data. With the free account, the size of each individual file uploaded is restricted to 100MB, which can be problematic for anyone working with larger files. Jumpshare Plus has been called the “nicest file sharing app yet” by AppStorm. Users can sign up for a free account, which comes with 2GB of storage, or upgrade to Jumpshare Plus which has 100GB of storage, for a yearly or monthly fee. There are many formats that are supported by Jumpshare, and these are categorized into different types of: Images, Audio, Video, Font, Document, eBooks, Presentation, Code, Spreadsheets and CAD. For example, if you’re saving or sharing a Word document, it will be viewable in your browser, instead of launching Word and then displaying the file.Īccording to a CNET review, it is “just about as easy as possible to use.” With the option of viewing files there and then in a browser, “Jumpshare has effectively made downloading a secondary option.” It allows users to view and share files in over 200 formats in a web browser, without having to open the files in their specific formats. Jumpshare is a file sharing service with a difference. Jumpshare is a file sharing service that began in Pakistan, and it has changed the way we save and upload our files. With everything being digitised now, everyone has things to save and share, and hundreds of ways of doing this online. Remember floppy disks? Ever label, mislabel, scratch and ultimately lose your writable CDs? Or leave and lose your life’s work on a USB stick in some computer lab somewhere? You’ve most likely moved beyond these and are using some sort of online file saving and sharing service. Those communicating online should bear in mind that netiquette is a constant process for everyone, and give others the benefit of the doubt when possible. Those with power or privilege over others should do their best not to use either unethically. It’s typically unethical and often illegal. People online should not share other people’s personal information or seek it out. In general, protracted arguments (“flame wars”) can make participants seem impulsive or rude avoiding them is usually the best course of action. When sharing information online, it’s important to ensure that the information is of good quality, is true and is helpful. Make Yourself Look GoodĪvatars, word choice, bios and other such things should always convey the right message. Being respectful by being brief and concise or by not expecting an immediate response is likely to be appreciated. The internet is full of content and communications seeking the user’s attention. What might be acceptable in an online message board is not when posting professional blog content. Just as in real life, different spaces on the internet have different social mores and codes of conduct. People should always behave the same way online that they would in the real world. It can seem easy to get away with moral and ethical infractions or with law-breaking online. People communicating online should remember that they’re dealing with other human beings, and should treat them the same way they would in person. In Netiquette, Virginia Shea outlines several guidelines and rules for internet etiquette. Because it’s difficult to see the human on the other side of the screen, it can be easy to ignore social norms that we would normally see in face-to-face communication. In addition, communication on the web adds layers of abstraction between participants in a conversation. The internet, on the other hand, remembers everything. Written communication is more permanent, but access to a given piece of writing isn’t universal. These guidelines include best practices for effective communication, ethics and manners that apply specifically to the online space. Internet etiquette is a set of guidelines for online communication. While the internet has expanded our ability to communicate, it brings with it the possibility for misinterpretation, rudeness and other blunders. The modern world is increasingly connected, and it’s clear that we live in a communication age.īut with great power comes great responsibility. After the National Science Foundation Network (NFSNET) retired in April of 1995, the Internet transitioned to a commercially-owned backbone of networks that we know today (Shah & Kesan, 2007) with 4.5 billion active users worldwide (Statista, 2020). Network etiquette, coined as netiquette in 1995 by Intel (Hambridge, 1995), established nascent directives during the Internet's infancy, mostly regarding standards for email usage. The abrupt pivot to online teaching and learning during the Spring semester of 2020 because of worldwide stay-at-home directives left educators and their stakeholders with few guidelines to enact teaching and learning in online platforms. That image in my own head is now forever replaced with one of a toddler lovingly putting bows in her grandfather’s beard while he’s conked out in the living room, because the picture that Zoë Wanamaker is painting is absolutely adorable. His long hair and beard with the elegant set of embroidered robes is a picture not many fans have forgotten. Richard Harris was the original Dumbledore, and his portrayal of the ancient wizard is one that fans adore. Because he had the long hair and the beard, we tied it all up with little bows. To save Hogwarts will require all of Harry, Ron and Hermiones magical abilities and courage. There was a day where me and Maggie Smith were sat in the makeup room doing crosswords and having a gossip when Richard comes in, in full costume and just falls asleep. In-universe, no explanation for Dumbledore's apparent abrupt change of appearance was ever given.Īnswer heavily based on this answer to a similar question on another SE site. The Golden Trio were definitely involved in some practical jokes on set, and it appears as though the young wizards weren’t the only ones. The runtime of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is 161 minutes (02 hours 41 minutes). TL DR: both the new actor and the new director wanted Dumbledore portrayed differently in the 3rd film, and then they stuck with that version of Dumbledore for the later films. Richard was very regal - as Dumbledore is described in the books - and very beautiful, and we wanted to do it more hippyish, cheekier and a little more shabby. That would be so bad for both: for Richard and for Michael. From the get-go we made changes to give the continuity, but at the same time it was not about imitating Richard Harris. It’s a slightly different Dumbledore than it would have otherwise been, isn’t it?Īlfonso Cuarón: It is slightly different. He’s similar enough that it didn’t feel jarring but at the same time he brings his own thing. The director of the third film, Alfonso Cuaron, has also commented on the change of actor for Dumbledore, in this interview: Then Hermione is also attacked and petrified. Things go from bad to worse when Harrys room is raided by an unknown person and the book is stolen. I'm a little bit more camp, I think, a bit lighter. In yet another strand, Lucius Malfoy, one of the school governors has been putting the frighteners on his colleagues and they, the other governors, have forced Dumbledore to leave the school. I did that and Alfonso said, "What's the accent here?" I said, "Irish." He said, "That's OK." And no one's ever mentioned it. On the first film I did which was directed by Alfonso Cuaron I walked in there and I'm naturally Irish and my first accent is Irish, I will speak Irish with my parents, and I played just a slight touch of Trinity College Dublin. Michael Gambon: No one ever spoke to me about it. To what extent did you have to inherit Richard Harris's performance? Gambon didn't even try to imitate Harris's portrayal, or to play Dumbledore as described in the books (in fact, he didn't even read the books before taking on the role) - he brought his own style to the role of Dumbledore, regardless of the fact that it conflicted with the Dumbledore of the first two films. The new actor and director decided to portray Dumbledore differently.ĭumbledore in the first two films was played by the late Richard Harris Dumbledore in the rest of the films was played by Michael Gambon. just set the edge awareness strength and easily brush in adjustments exactly where you need them. Marlboro once marketed a set of octahedral poker dice that included suits each die had slightly different numberings, ranging from 7 up to ace. Consequently, in some variants of the rules, straights are counted as busts. In poker dice there are in fact only four possible bust hands:, ,, and both other no-pair hands (i.e., in which either the A or the 9 are missing) are straights. *Busts have much lower probability than in card poker, because there are only 6 values instead of 13, making pairs and straights much more likely than with cards. The poker dice hand rankings and the corresponding probabilities of rolling that hand are as follows (not sorted by probability but from highest to lowest ranking): Hand A Flush beats Four of a Kind (as in card poker, and correctly reflecting its lower probability). Under these rules, a Straight beats a Full House (unlike in card poker, but correctly reflecting its probability) but does not beat Four of a Kind (incorrectly reflecting its lower probability). Each one has an exact probability of 120 / 7776. In some rules, only a straight to a King is called a Straight, while a straight to an Ace is called (somewhat incorrectly) a Flush. Neither a 'flush' nor a 'straight flush' is a possible hand, due to the lack of suits on the dice. A Straight is less probable than a Full House, so, if counted, it should rank above a Full House, though tradition usually ranks it below Full House, as in card poker. In most variations, a straight only counts as a Bust (high-card). After the three rolls, the best hand wins. Each player has a total of 3 rolls and the ability to hold dice in between rolls. Some notable candidates include the following: The inventor of the first e-book is not widely agreed upon. Schuessler correlates it with a DJ spinning bits of old songs to create a beat or an entirely new song, as opposed to just a remix of a familiar song. In an article, Jennifer Schuessler writes, "The machine, Brown argued, would allow readers to adjust the type size, avoid paper cuts and save trees, all while hastening the day when words could be 'recorded directly on the palpitating ether.'" Brown believed that the e-reader (and his notions for changing text itself) would bring a completely new life to reading. Later e-readers never followed a model at all like Brown's however, he correctly predicted the miniaturization and portability of e-readers. In his book, Brown says movies have outmaneuvered the book by creating the "talkies" and, as a result, reading should find a new medium:Ī simple reading machine which I can carry or move around, attach to any old electric light plug and read hundred-thousand-word novels in 10 minutes if I want to, and I want to.īrown's notion, however, was much more focused on reforming orthography and vocabulary, than on medium ("It is time to pull out the stopper" and begin "a bloody revolution of the word."): introducing huge numbers of portmanteau symbols to replace normal words, and punctuation to simulate action or movement so it is not clear whether this fits into the history of "e-books" or not. He titled it The Readies, playing off the idea of the "talkie". Some trace the concept of an e-reader, a device that would enable the user to view books on a screen, to a 1930 manifesto by Bob Brown, written after watching his first " talkie" (movie with sound). A device that is designed specifically for reading e-books is called an "e-reader", "ebook device", or "eReader". 2.7 Dedicated hardware readers and mobile softwareĮ-books are also referred to as "ebooks", "eBooks", "Ebooks", "e-Books", "e-journals", "e-editions", or "digital books". 2.2.3 Douglas Engelbart and Andries van Dam (1960s).by 2014, 28% of adults had read an e-book, compared to 23% in 2013 and by 2014, 50% of American adults had an e-reader or a tablet, compared to 30% owning such devices in 2013. The amount of e-book reading is increasing in the U.S. In addition, for programming books, code examples can be copied. With e-books, "electronic bookmarks make referencing easier, and e-book readers may allow the user to annotate pages." "Although fiction and non-fiction books come in e-book formats, technical material is especially suited for e-book delivery because it can be digitally searched" for keywords. The main reasons for people buying e-books are possibly lower prices, increased comfort (as they can buy from home or on the go with mobile devices) and a larger selection of titles. By the early 2010s, e-books had begun to overtake hardcover by overall publication figures in the U.S. With e-books, users can browse through titles online, and then when they select and order titles, the e-book can be sent to them online or the user can download the e-book. With print books, readers are increasingly browsing through images of the covers of books on publisher or bookstore websites and selecting and ordering titles online the paper books are then delivered to the reader by mail or another delivery service. In the 2000s, there was a trend of print and e-book sales moving to the Internet, where readers buy traditional paper books and e-books on websites using e-commerce systems. E-books can be read on dedicated e-reader devices, but also on any computer device that features a controllable viewing screen, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones. Although sometimes defined as "an electronic version of a printed book", some e-books exist without a printed equivalent. An ebook (short for electronic book), also known as an e-book or eBook, is a book publication made available in digital form, consisting of text, images, or both, readable on the flat-panel display of computers or other electronic devices. There are numerous sources of protein, both animal (meat, dairy, etc.) and plant-based (beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, etc.). These amino acids are typically referred to as "essential amino acids," and are obtained by humans and other animals through the consumption of protein. Amino acids are essential to a person's well-being, and there are certain amino acids that can only be obtained through diet. Proteins are organic compounds comprised of amino acids, and are one of the types of macronutrients. While macronutrients are necessary daily in amounts on the order of grams, humans typically only need fewer than 100 milligrams of micronutrients each day. Micronutrients are another essential part of human nutrition and consist of vitamins and dietary minerals such as Vitamin A, copper, iron, and iodine. In this calculator, we only calculate daily carbohydrate, protein, and fat needs. Some definitions also include water, air, calcium, sodium, chloride ions, and some other substances, along with more typical macronutrients, since they are needed in large quantities by the human body. Specifically, they refer to carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. In the context of health and fitness, macronutrients are most often defined to be the chemical compounds that humans consume in large quantities that provide bulk energy.
